The next and so far most interesting Ted Talk I watched was " Could we speak the language of Dolphins? " by Denise Herzing. I really enjoyed this Ted talk because I have always loved Dolphins. Since I was a kid Dolphins were my favorite animals and they were what really interested me into the topic of marine biology. Denise throughout the video shows advances In our technology making communication with Dolphins possible in the near future. This could overall create a new way of life for Dolphins and it could help their community.
Throughout the video Denise talked about how she spent five months, each summer living with a pod of Atlantic spotted Dolphins. She followed three generations of the family relationships and behaviors and formed some sort of idea on the way they communicate with each other from her knowledge and new information being with the Dolphins for so long. Dolphins audio system is now advancing and we are able to generate scanning sounds to see objects based on the echoes. With receiving these echoes, Dolphins can actually "picture" the echoes which is almost how they communicate with one another. This means it is very possible for us humans to almost echo the sound back out in order to communicate with Dolphins. This means when the "echo library" is learned, communication between Dolphins and humans will be possible.
I really enjoyed watching this talk because of the future advances with Dolphins and I loved the fact we can communicate with them in the near future! My favorite part of this talk is when Herzing shows the audience and viewers how this communication will be reached. It really interested me and proved the hard, trust worthy work she put into this advance. My least favorite part was the overall how this will effect Dolphins. She showed the Dolphins with all the energy may harm them but it will be contained easily. This talk means a lot to me because going back to the fact on marine biology and how I want to study them, Dolphins are what I want to work with in the future. I learnt a lot on future work with Dolphins that I will eventually need to know!
This Ted talk really influenced my idea of marine biology and really interested more into the topic. It really is such an amazing thing to be able to know communication between Dolphins and humans could be in the near future. I really recommend watching this talk! It was great and overall a really cool video. I give Denise Herzing a lot of credit for the discovery of new communication along with her co-workers. This new communication really will do a lot for the future.
